The things I’d always been so certain about were dissolving in the face of what I’d found. Was it too far? Did the trains go much faster than everyone had allowed for? The first thing that hit me was that my home had been marked on the map above my desk the whole time, if I’d only known where to look. It was almost all the way across an enormous country. To her they seemed so far away from Kolkata that she wondered whether it was possible I could have traveled that distance.
